Love The Babies

The "Love the Babies" project is the first project that led to the formation of the Robin Hood Foundation. Through this project, needy Mums from Aids affected communities are given a "Love the Babies" bag for the first year of their new baby's life. A Love the babies" bag is essentially a baby shower in a bag. Love the Babies bags are always so well- received by the needy mums who we donate to.

Included in these bags are toweling nappies, disposable nappies, second hand and new baby clothes, booties, hats, bibs, blankets, towels, toys and teddies.

Occassionally, if we receive sufficient donations, special items such as aqueous cream, baby shampoo or powder are included in bags.

At the Robin Hood Foundation we are concerned by the huge disparity in society. On the one side of town, new mums have cupboards bulging with an abundance of baby clothes that they don't need whereas on the other side of town, needy mums give birth to children and they don't even have an outfit to put on their newborn. We would like to see an end to the horror stories of new mums taking their babies home from hospital wrapped in newspaper.

From May 2005 to December 2011, 14 500 Love the Babies bags were handed out to needy mums in the greater Durban area, including St Mary's Hospital, King Edward Hospital and Inchanga clinic. Bags are also given to needy mums identified through churches, pregnancy crisis centres and concerned individuals.

The Love the Babies project aims to help 100 new mums every month and in order to do this, we need a continuous supply of baby items.

Each Love the Babies bag contains the following items
